  • It's been a long time...

I don't know how long it's been, but the family and I are venturing down to SD this weekend for a short visit!  We won't have much time to visit.  We will be down Sat night then church on Sunday.  We have to get back up to LA for a birthday celebration (Mama Fuji - Miche, are you going?).  Mary Ann & Sam, I'm not sure we'll be able to chat for a long period this time around...but still looking forward to meeting you, Sam!

  • Uncle Update

For those who have been faithfully praying for Uncle Sam - thank you.  Here's an update that we received.  He still in ICU.  He had a tracheotomy so he doesn't have damage to his voice box.  He's stable and doing well in terms of his heart, lungs, and BP.  I'm so glad we went to see him a couple of weeks ago because it sounds like since he has moved to Kaiser, only immediate family can see him.  I'm praying for his condition and that through this time, his faith would be solidified.

  • Resemblances and randomness

I don't know why, but Cheryl Burke Cheryl Burke from Dancing with the Stars reminds me of Joanne!  Jo, there are lots of people who remind me of you - like my last nurse who helped me while giving birth to V!   (picture below) Maybe it's not so much that my nurse looked like Jo (although she looks more like Jo than Cheryl), but her kindheartedness and loving heart and gentle voice reminds me of her.  For Cheryl, I think it's because she can dance that reminds me of Jo who also loves to dance and can move! [Go Drew and Cheryl!!]  I miss you, Jo!  And I miss LOTS of you CBCers and Nor Cal peeps (and Julie Kim in Korea) too that throughout the day, God subtly reminds me of you.  When God prompts me, I pray for you!  Been meaning to get in touch with LOTS of you...but know you are still very much a part of my heart and mind.  This definitely goes for Gatewayers too (past and present)!  Friends are SUCH a blessing from God and I'm very thankful for you all.

Also does he remind you of Fred Savage?  Anyone? Will Makar

V just got her first haircut!

V pretending to drive!  She loves to be in the drivers seat...now that's a window into her personality!

trying to be a cool cat!

and look at what we saw driving on the 10 East that day!

Pictures do make it seem like it was a great day, huh?  Overall, yes it was a good day, but so many things happened this day - and the rest of the week.  I prefer to remember it the way the pictures depict!  More details later!

  • Lots going on

This week has been one hectic week.  I'll give details later.  But first, pictures were requested so I'm going to try and post a picture.  This picture was taken today after the trying week we had.  Despite what V's gone through, she's still smiling!

  • Thanks

Thanks so much for all of your prayers!  Uncle Sam has been transferred to another hospital and apparently still in ICU.  A couple of days ago, I guess he went to surgery to remove a hematoma.  We went to visit him 2 thursdays ago (this was before the surgery). It was a quick visit, but we were grateful to see him alert.  He isn't able to talk because he has tubes down his throat.  Anyway, our 5 minute (less than) visit was just to see him and pray for/with him.  He's strong and a fighter!  God has sustained him for much longer than the doctors expected him to survive.  So thanks again for your continued prayers for him.

  • Prayer Please!

    Hello my fellow Xanganites,

We need some serious prayer.  Vince's 78 year old Uncle Sam (now my uncle sam) is in need of much prayer coverage.  We just found out that he is in the hospital.  He had abdominal pain on Saturday and went to emergency.  They found a mass under his belly.  He has internal bleeding probably due to his 9 yrs on Coumadin (for thinning his blood).  Now I believe he's on a ventilator and needs dialysis b/c of kidney failure.  Please ask God to help sustain him through this.  Prognosis didn't sound too promising, but only God really knows that.  Anyway, please help to pray and pray for his family and Auntie Lai.

Lisa, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.  Thank you for your prayers through this.

  • What I have been learning in the last months

These past months, the Lord has been molding me (both of us) of the meaning of true authentic community.  I think this has been something He's been trying to change in me my whole life, but maybe I'm just learning it or having to learn it and understand it again (and perhaps solidify even more) at this stage of my life.  Perhaps I'm finally feeling the transition from being single to married to being a parent...and the challenges that all of those stages face.  Through trials that have been happening directly to us and also around us, we have been in distinct positions to actually make some very real changes.  So despite the difficulties, I praise God for His goodness not just to me, but to many wonderful friends.  I'm also so grateful for His constancy that through the wind and the waves, His is THE solid Rock.

I pray that as God puts thoughts in my head, that I would act according to what He wants me to do with those thoughts and not just push it to the back burner as I so often do.  V points out that I tend to say, "I thought abt doing that..." or "I was going to do that..." or something similar to find that it didn't go anywhere past a thought...Thoughts are worthless without action.  That's been my take-home message!   [This has been my recent phrase of how to challenge people in what they are learning and how they will apply what they learned.]  And God's been teaching me how to be more open and being ok with that and more comfortable.

Today I think we (V, VV, and me) are going to the LA Zoo.  We now have a membership so we can go anytime.  If anyone wants to join us, let me know!  It's a lot of fun.  With a membership, we don't have to worry about seeing everything in one day or feel like we have to spend the whole day there.  It gives a lot more freedom.  VV LOVES the zoo especially the water animals (sea lions, seals), but I think her favorites are the monkeys (gibbons) because she's somewhat of a monkey herself (not to mention being born in the year of the monkey).  And we found out that if it's just me and VV, another adult can go in for free in place of V Sr.!  So...if you're available, we'd love to have your company!

  • Thank you for the many prayers regarding my headache entry several months ago.  I am actually feeling much better.  During Christmas, I was talking to my cousin and found out that she goes through the same thing!  I told her I couldn't yet find the correlation to my menses, but after talking to her, I realized that I may have the similar hormonal situation.  Plus she pointed out that both our mothers (who are sisters) have or had the same problem before.  After talking, I did recall my mom had many headaches while I was growing up.  So mystery may be solved.  Since Dec, my headaches have really tapered to the point where I did not feel the need to get an MRI anymore.  I should still see the eye doctor because I'm due for another checkup anyway and since I have the referral that you need when you have an HMO, I might as well take the opportunity now to avoid any more trouble of trying to get another referral.  I've noticed that I don't have as many headaches (I don't know if it's in my head or if the last months last year warranted more of them.  What I loved about being pregnant was NOT having headaches (and the same for my cousin) - so it's a good chance it's hormonal.  But as some of you knew me before, when I got headaches, I would basically take aspirin/IB right away otherwise it might have progressed to a migraine-like mess.  I still do that.  I got some Imitrex JUST in case the aspirin/IB didn't work, but so far - thank God - I have not had to use those pills yet (even though I kind of regret getting the pills because they were pretty expensive just for like 10 pills...oh welll).
